Cool bike storage

Living in a city that's only seven miles by seven miles, space is pretty limited. I'm really glad to have some garage space where we can store our tandem and my bike, but if we didn't, I would definitely want to use this amazing bike shelf! Isn't that such a cool way to make bike storage look like part of the design of your home?

(P.S. Thanks Caitlyn for showing me this!)

San Francisco bikes

San Francisco is a really cool city for bikes. There are lots of bike lanes, lots of pretty sights to see, and the weather is generally never too hot and never too cold to bike. I've written about our tandem that my grandmother gave us for our wedding that we ride around the Mission and the Castro (as long as we don't leave our neighborhood, we can avoid the hills!). I loved seeing this graphic representation of San Francisco neighborhoods based on what bikes you'll see there. I think it's pretty true to life - my personal bike is a mix between Mission and Presidio, and our tandem is probably the only tandem you'll see in the Mission (I guess the rest are in the Marina?).

A Bicycle Built For Two

One thing we've decided to do though is to register for fun things in addition to home and kitchen goods, so Jonny just set up an Amazon registry last night. Here's my favorite thing on the registry:

I've actually been surprised by how much I don't enjoy registering for wedding gifts. I thought it would be so fun to shop and scan, but it ends up being hilariously stressful with Jonny saying things like, "The thought of drinking out of a colored glass makes me want to throw up," and me freaking out when the nice little highschooler behind the counter at Williams-Sonoma started showing us knives that cost $250 a piece. But I'm loving the idea of zipping around San Francisco on this bicycle!

The (Emily) White House

One of my dearest friends, Emily White, just bought her first home in Charlotte, NC, and I wasn't at all surprised when she took me on a Skype video tour yesterday that it's already looking like a decorator show house. Emily is one of the most talented people I know with an incredible eye for design. She also just won Teach For America's Teacher of the year award for Charlotte! Below are a few photos from her new home, and what's most amazing to me is that she got almost all of her furniture from Craigslist.

Isn't it beautiful? I love that even her bike looks like a work of art. Emily White, you are the shit.
