Sorrento, Pompeii, and Vesuvius

I'm going to take over this blog for the next few days with nothing but pictures from days of travel in Italy. Hope that's ok with everyone. We'll start where we started, and we spent our first five days in Italy in Sorrento. We stayed at a place called Hotel Corallo on the coast, and we soon learned that "corallo" meant "coral" because every possible piece of decor was something coral. Coral tiles in the bathroom, coral lamps, coral centerpieces, coral ash trays. We spent most of our time in Sorrento with family, hanging by the pool, driving our Panda rental car down tiny streets, and eating lots of pizza and pasta.

So here is Sorrento:
This was the view from our hotel at breakfast. Not bad.

Everything was blooming! And even though I know nothing about flowers, it was beautiful.

This picture was taken to show how tiny one of the roads we drove down was. Also, I'm wearing Jonny's shoes because mine were killing my feet (story of my life).

We took a little day trip up to Pompeii:

I searched and searched for the people, and finally we found them. We also found a dog that had been chained up during the eruption and didn't make it out.

...and then I found $14. Seriously.

After Pompeii, we had to see the volcano that caused the eruption up close, so we decided to take a little hike up Mt. Vesuvius.

... I was not dressed for the occasion, but the view from the top was gorgeous.

So there you have the beginning of our travels. Stay tuned for lots more!
